Bike Freaks Do It Better: Sport Bikes and the Love of the Open Road

My favorite part about riding my bike is the freedom

I ride a lot. I commute from work to my house and I also do rides to Ensenada and Tijuana. Myself and my wife, we’re both bike enthusiasts or bike freaks, you might say. We own several bikes. She has a 2016 Harley-Davidson Tri Glide. I have this 2008 Suzuki Hayabusa 1500 RR, I have a 2004 Harley-Davidson Road King Custom, I have a 2008 Harley-Davidson Softail Rocker C. And I just bought a bike for my birthday, a 2019 Harley-Davidson Street Glide, with a 114 cubic inch engine, which is a little bit faster street bike to ride. That one might be a project that I’ll try to pimp out with a big wheel on the back, Maxx exhaust, and upgrade the sound. I’m might do a couple graphics on the back. Hopefully by the end of this summer it will be done.

My first was a 1985 Honda 500 Interceptor. I sold it because my wife told me to, she said I couldn’t ride my bike to my work. Then in 2002 we flew to Puerto Rico to see my in-laws. I met my brothers-in-law for the first time and they were also bike enthusiasts. When we came back from Puerto Rico, my wife, she’s the one who bought a bike, a 2002 Harley-Davidson Iron 883 Sportster. I waited about 2 years after that to buy my bike, and since then we’ve been buying and selling our bikes to keep updating the collection.

My favorite part about riding my bike is the freedom. It’s kind of a relaxing freedom, your mind starts going to a different dimension, you start to have different kinds of thoughts and to perceive the world in a different way. I feel like a more enriched person when I ride my bike, especially on long rides. The adrenaline in your body when you pull the throttle back, it feels so good, but you always have to be conscious of what you’re doing. Safety first, but it’s like a rollercoaster that you can control.
